Our first Parent and Child Tennis Tournament took place on Saturday 30 July 2016, with an impressive 42 doubles teams entering the competition and participating in over 200 round robin matches. Although teams were divided into groups according to skill level, the focus was on having fun around the courts with the whole family, instead of hosting a tournament aimed at winning the most matches. Players picked witty names for their teams (e.g. Smoken Aces, One Hit Wonders, Mid-Court Crisis and Shanks-a-lot) and fun prizes were awarded for each team, including the Drop shot Diva Award, The Lobster King Award for Killer Lobs, the “Monster Gees” award and the Sniper Volley Award. The day ended off with a spitbraai for 115 people at the club and fun games for the children under the flood lights. This truly a great family event was repeated on Saturday 21 April 2018 when we hosted our second Parant and Child Tennis Tournament, and our next tournament is being planned for Saturday 27 April 2019.
